You will work in our 'fashion lab' as a collectively sharing and exchanging ideas in the culture of three-dimensional design. With our well-established industry links and partnerships, the craft and skill of fashion is paramount at Kingston University and is developed through pioneering projects with industry practitioners from our Fashion MA staff team.
During the course you will also participate in interdisciplinary modules established across both the School of 3D Design and the School of Communication Design. This gives you the opportunity to expand your current design thinking and methodology, experiment and transform your medium, and work in dynamic teams to exchange and create ideas.
Students successful in gaining a place on Fashion MA at Kingston will begin the course by showcasing their summer signature project work at the annual London Fashion Week Show as part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout1.
The Fashion MA course consists of three stages:
* Stage 1 establishes your design signature in a series of critical design projects and new fashion methodologies. You will be required to answer fundamental design questions to investigate your focus for your Fashion MA studies. Through the Process Module you will engage in inter-practice and contemporary design processes assisting you in developing significant design techniques through new materials, technologies, and design's relationship to science as well as developing communication techniques and ideas through performance and presentation.
* Stage 2 of the programme characterises your fashion practice through creative development and design articulation. Students engage in live industry briefs maintaining focus. During this stage you will develop your design DNA by sharing, engaging and exchanging with leading organisations their creative ideas, gaining vital feedback to challenge your practice during which you accomplish your individual Fashion MA methodology. Stage 2 also offers the opportunity to undertake significant work experience. Opportunities are available to work for major designers to assist in preparation for the London fashion shows calendar. Hybrid fashion creatives will also intern across the design sectors with commercial futures thinkers, product and innovation based creatives to gain experience. You will also identify and build partnerships with potential sponsors and collaborators for your Major Project.
* Stage 3 of the programme allows the designer to define, resolve and present their design practice. Designers use fashion futures to forecast their major project proposal to our industry panel. The final stage of the course is then spent developing and defining your work for Body Laboratory as part of The Vauxhall Fashion Scout Presentation and Show at our annual showcase during London Fashion Week. This conclusive phase of the Fashion MA programme is a vital opportunity to present your work as tomorrow's fashion designer, fashion communicator, fashion critic, fashion strategist, fashion technologist, fashion researcher, fashion materialogist, and craftsperson or maker.
